Abstract
Effect of the period of cold storage according to the seedling age on dowering of Campanula medium ¢¥White¢¥ for cut flowers was examined. Seedling plants of 120, 150, 180, 210, and 240 days of age from sowing were subjected to cold storage at 4 1¡É in the darkness for 40 to 70 days. The longer the period of cold storage and seedling age, the higher the flowering rate, especially 100% over 60 days of cold storage on 240 days of seedling age. However, days to bolting (A) and days to first flowering (B) decreased. As the days from bolting to first bloom (days of B-A) were not different among treatments, shortening of days to first flowering was due only to the reduced bolting. Plant height in normal flowering stocks showed increase in proportion to refrigeration and seedling age, but weight of cut flower decreased. There were some not significant differences among the treatments in the number of flower buds.
